Culver City CA Real Estate
Known as one of the major centers of motion picture and television production in Los Angeles, Culver City, California is home to Sony Pictures Studios (formerly MGM studios), as well as Culver Studios and DesiLu Studios, among others. Hundreds of movies have been produced here and the city's streets have been shown in scores of television shows and films. Classics such as The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane and Gone with the Wind were all produced on the lots of studios located in Culver City. The headquarters of National Public Radio are also located here.
Though many famous actors, producers and other industry professionals call Culver City home, many non-industry types also enjoy the stability and subtly affluent aura of the area, as well as its moderate temperatures and relatively safe environment. A large percentage of Culver City's residents are highly educated, which further contributes to the sophisticated feel of the area.
Though the decline of nearby South Central Los Angeles caused gang and narcotic problems to spill into Culver City in the '70s, a revitalization program was launched in the 1990s which renovated the downtown area, as well as shopping areas in the Sepulveda Corridor. In recent years, many art galleries have opened in the eastern part of the city, which is now known as the Culver City Arts District. This area has drawn national exposure after the New York Times compared it to a "nascent Chelsea." The main geographical feature in Culver City is Ballona Creek, which runs southwest through most of the city and into Santa Monica Bay. A light rail line from Downtown Los Angeles to a station at Culver Junction (near Venice and Robertson Boulevards) began in 2006, and is slated for completion in 2010. Eventually this line will be extended west to Santa Monica. Culver City is a separate entity from Los Angeles, with its own school system and government, and many would say this contributes to its charm.
Home prices here have remained more stable than in much of Los Angeles, with the median price in 2007 listed at $595,000. A diverse array of real estate options exist in Culver City: moderately priced condominiums, multi-million dollar homes, and small post-war bungalows can all be found here. The demographic of the area is also diverse, and includes a wide range of ethnicities and generations.
