The coastal community of Marina del Rey California is
located in the center of Los Angeles' Westside between Venice Beach and Playa
del Rey, four miles north of Los Angeles International Airport.
Marina del Rey comprises 807 acres, of which 1/2 is under water. It is
actually a man-made phenomenon, having been constructed in the late 1950s. The
approximate borders include the area west of Lincoln Boulevard, east of Via
Dolce, north of Ballona Creek and south of Washington Boulevard/Oxford Basin,
and the Pacific Ocean. This is the area closest to the marina waterfront and
close to the water's edge.
As defined in the U.S. Census, Marina del Rey CDP (Census Designated Place) has a population
of 8,176. The community includes 5,246 boat slips in 23 anchorages and marinas,
5,445 rental apartments, 600 condominiums, six hotels with 1,037 hotel rooms,
and one million square feet of retail, office and restaurant development.
